Emperor Doel is the leader of the Imperial Sandora in the first chapter of the game. He is Albert's uncle, and killed his own brother to attain his position. When Lloyd came, he put oil on the fire of Doel's anger, and it burned even hotter. He went on the offense against Basil, breaking his previous treaty. Eventually, his fire was put out when Dart and Albert came to end the war. He was revealed to be the Violet Dragoon just before he dies.
When the party reaches the Moon in the fourth chapter, Albert must face his past with Emperor Doel and fight his memory of him. Although the battle is not nearly as difficult as the first, Doel also does not have the Dragoon Spirit in this one. The battle helps Albert to let go of the past and face the crisis of the present.
 Strategy - First Encounter
Hit Points: 850
Hit Points: 1450
Emperor Doel is first encountered in the Black Castle as the final boss battle of Chapter 1. He is considered one of the most difficult boss battles of the game here. He begins as his normal self: "Emperor Doel," but then transforms into "Dragoon Doel." That is when the battle really begins. He uses many magic attacks, which do heavy damage to the party, especially Albert, if used. In turn, he has an adequate Magic Defense, so Attack Items are not incredibly useful here. Using a Dragoon Special can be useful at the beginning of the battle, especially to use Albert's Rose Storm. Watch your party's health, as it could easily disappear in two rounds. When he reaches half HP, Doel throws up an impenetrable shield that lasts longer the longer it is attacked. At this point, guarding is very helpful, but sometimes healing is necessary, because Doel does not hesitate to attack in this stage. After the shield goes down, you are free to attack him again and end the battle.
 Strategy - Second Encounter
|Location||Moon That Never Sets|
Hit Points: 1500-2000
Hit Points: 1000-1440
Hit Points: 1000-1440
The second encounter of Emperor Doel occurs on the Moon That Never Sets, where Albert must fight his past and overcome the pain of his father's murder by Doel. In this battle, "Dark Doel" has two swords, which must be defeated before Doel himself can be. His "Light Sword" and "Shadow Sword" are both Thunder-based. After defeating the swords, Doel himself is not a difficult enemy. Because of Albert's low Magic Defense, Doel's magic attack could cause moderate damage, but most likely not. A few good Additions will defeat him.
